ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Travis Head Overtakes Yashaswi Jaiswal In T20i Rankings; Check Out the Reason

ICC T20 World Cup 2024: It has not been a good tournament for Yashaswi Jaiswal so far. Not because he has not performed well, but because he hasn't had the chance to even play a single match.

Before the start of the tournament, everyone thought that Jaiswal would open the innings alongside skipper Rohit Sharma. Even after an underwhelming IPL 2024, no one changed their mind about Jaiswal's opening for India.

The main reason for that was because of Jaiswal's approach in the PowerPlay. He plays with a flair and that do-or-die attitude that encapsulates the modern T20 game. It is either a six or out, nothing in between.

The Virat Kohli Conundrum

But everyone was shocked when Sanju Samson opened the innings for India in the warm-up match. It made one thing sure, Rohit and Rahul Dravid are planning to play either Sanju or Rishabh Pant in the top three.

Which made sense and for that to happen, Virat Kohli had to be pushed to open the innings. Kohli has been doing the same for RCB and has been excelling in that role, winning the orange cap in IPL 2024.

But playing both Kohli and Pant in the top 3 closed the doors for Yashaswi Jaiswal in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. And it has finally affected his ICC T20i rankings as he dropped down one position without being able to do anything.

In the latest ICC T20i rankings, Travis Head has overtaken Yashaswi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler. The Australian is now in 5th position and the Indian youngster has dropped down to 7th.

Surya Kumar Yadav is still at the top followed by Phil Salt and the Pakistan duo of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. Other than Sky and Jaiswal, only Ruturaj Gaikwad is the other Indian to be in the top 20 T20i batsmen and is in 13th position.
